The greatest waste in my play is playing starting hands not on my planned list in pot limit hold 'em. It is like a diet. I know what hands not to play in all positions but I get bored and overconfident and play too many hands.
Does anyone else do that?

in live play, sometimes. Online, rarely. I think its much easier to play disciplined online. Im usually doing something else when im playing, so I can just wait from premium hands. Live play it is all im doing, so if Im not in a hand, im not in a hand. As much fun as trying to sit there and read people, when you're playin 15-25% of hands and you're getting 20 hands an hour, getting bored happens

usually since i play home games, with friends there talking will easily cure boredom, but if its a time not to talk, learn some chip tricks, i learned that it keeps me from being bored sometimes. for me, having discipline on my starting hands is the best thing i do, it makes u survive till the end. just yesterday during a home game i barely played any hands, didnt knock out a single person and ended up winning, cuz the only person u gotta knock out is the person you go heads up with.

I end up doing the same especially when I am getting junk cards and seeing some lucky fish win on junk. No I still wont play on 7 2o but I may end up chasing something like K 7 suited.

If you feel like the best person at the table or even better then the players in the hand then you can play less then premieum hands and just outplay your opp. Nl is the best game to play like that.

yep, i catch myself doing it sometimes too. "Just this once, I'll play this Q J os from UTG. That guy in the 6 seat is terrible. I can lay it down if nothing hits."

I think we all do it and not a whole lot of us are willing to admit it.
I will do it early in a SnG, when limping in with something like K/T os or higher non-suited connectors will cost me 1/100th of my stack. I try to do this in LP (cutoff or button) and see if I catch some of the flop what sort of action comes my way. If you can get a good hand early and build up your stack it can make a difference.

Today, I came within two hands of maintaining starting hand disciipline all day. While I was doing that, I was keeping track of which "off the list" hands win pots. It appeared they hardly ever win a pot. There is no reason not to do this from now on. There is a lot of action where seven take a flop.

i bet everyone DOES do it, but sometimes it depends on position too. yes it does get boring at times, and sometimes ull play handsl ike J9 on the button or in late position. hell ill even bring it in for a raise sometimnes if there are limpers, of course with a higher than medium shortstack. people wont put you on that hand and u have a chance of taking the pot right there
