Let's say in Texas Holdem, the 5 community cards are 5,7,8,10,6
my hand is 9,6
my two opponents have 9,4
and 9,Q
Now as I understand it, we all play the 6-7-8-9-10 straight. is the pot split 3 ways? or do you use a kicker card? My opinion is to split the pot because you can't kick a used 5 cards |

| You are correct, the pot is split 3 ways. Only the 5 card straight is used. |

This guy took the whole pot because he said he had the Q kicker...only $38 pot but then again I'm 17 and in college. I coulda used 1/3 of it
is there any website where I can see official texas holdem rules that states this so I can show him? |

| Ask him to tell you which 5 cards he's using. The winner of *any* pot in poker is the person with the best 5-card hand. |

| I like the 5-card question, pritz. They can't argue with it if they say it themselves. |

| It is the best 5 no matter where they are at. This guy did not know the rules. Go to any Texas Hold'em site that lists how to play at it tells you the best 5 cards only. That is the way all poker is played so not sure why they think it is different. |

| It's a common misconception that a hole kicker is a tiebreaker. The guys I played with tried to play this way until I printed up the rules and showed them. Rules are handy to have around, especially so you can handle a misdeal if it ever comes up. You can find a link to the rules on the mainpage of this site. |

| Yeah I would advise a printout of those at every game. As said a lot round here recently, it's best 5 cards - the kicker only comes into play if the hands aren't a full 5 cards, such as two identical pairs or similar. |
