hey folks-
What do you consider to be a good starting chip count, under different situations?
Like a $2/$4 table, what would you start with?
and in tournement settings, i've had two recent chip counts that had very different effects on me.
100 total chips: 50 x $5, 25 x $10, 25 x$25. everyone started like this and i did ver well, a great starting stack for everyone.
but i've played in many tournements with this setup:
$3750.
10 x $25
10 x $50
5 x $100
5 x $500
This setup has killed me. i've had almost no success. i think a lot of it has to do with blinds quickly raising and our startin chip stacks only being 30 physical chips. 2 chips for the first blind, and in only 15 minutes, blinds require 4 chips. just not a good scenario for me.
The reason i ask is because i would like to starting hosting the occasional tournement at home. i have easily enough room for 3-5 tables. what i don't have is an indefinate amount of chips. the 100 starting chip count i mentioned above was very easy, inexpensive, worked great, but not my choice of chips.
so if i decide to invest in a butt-load of chips... how many per person do you think i should have in this type of tournement scenario? (also like my first question, still interested in knowing what people sit down to a $2/4 table with) |

At a $2/$4 table, I sit down with a rack ($100), when I play this seems to be the normal buy in for most people.
In tournaments, I prefer the chip stacks to start at $1000, or $1500. I find that the tournaments that give you $100 or $300 in chips turn out to be crap shoots when you get to the 4th level, vs turning into a crap shoot at the 9th level. |

I prefer a few more chips at the table - it give me confidence that I've a little more to play with. In general, in a $2/4 I prefer nearer $150 upto even $200.
Everyone has their preferences, I just like a few more chips to play with, as it benefits my more aggressive style. I soon run out of chips if I don't start well otherwise. |
